Facebook announced last week that Moments, first launched in March 2015, will be shut down. If you’re wondering what Facebook Moments is and how the shutdown will impact your digital marketing, you’ve come to the right place.
What Is Facebook Moments?
Facebook Moments is an app, separate from the Facebook app, which allows users to privately share both photos and videos.
When Will Facebook Moments Be Shut Down?
As of February 25, Facebook Moments will no longer be available for users. Users will get a notification of the app’s dismissal and options to export their content: they can create a private photo album on their Facebook accounts or download their photos to their devices. Users can export photos until May 2019.
Why Will Facebook Moments Be Shut Down?
Facebook is discontinuing support for the Moments app because Facebook users weren’t commonly using the external service.
Facebook’s Director of Product Management Rushabh Doshi said, “We’re ending support for the Moments app, which we originally launched as a place for people to save their photos. We know the photos people share are important to them so we will continue offering ways to save memories within the Facebook app.”
What Does The Facebook Moments Shutdown Mean For Marketers?
The removal of this app from the app store shouldn’t affect your digital marketing strategy at all. Because the app was far removed from other Facebook channels and wasn’t very popular, most people won’t miss it, so marketers are not likely to either.
