How To Be More Eco-Friendly Working From Home
Working from home has helped many of us reduce our carbon footprint because we are no longer commuting to/from an office, but there are several ways you can be more eco-friendly while working from home to continue reducing your carbon footprint.
How To Reduce Your Carbon Footprint
- Make the most of natural light. Try to work in an area of your home that has lots of natural light, reducing the need to turn on the lights and use electricity. Many studies also show that natural light boosts productivity, decreases depression and generally makes you healthier.
- Use sustainable materials. This doesn’t mean building your office from bamboo or reclaimed wood (unless you want to, of course). Buying second-hand or refurbished office furniture is another simple way to help the environment, reduce waste and save money.
- Avoid using the printer. Storing files and documents electronically is an easy way to make your work activities more eco-friendly. Reducing your printing will also save you money on office supplies like paper and ink cartridges.
- Unplug devices when not in use. Did you know that electronic devices still use energy when they are plugged in but aren’t being used? Leaving devices plugged into the wall is a huge waste of energy and can increase your electricity bills. It also creates harmful emissions and puts unnecessary stress on the environment. Make your office as sustainable as possible by ensuring that electronic devices like your laptop, computer monitor and printer are unplugged from the wall when not in use.
