Be The Coffee Bean
This week, I rediscovered a story I had heard years ago, and the meaning has changed for me.
Before you read on, go here to watch the story of the carrot, the egg and the coffee bean.
This story reminds me of these three facts:
- We each have the power to choose how we respond in situations.
- None of us is alone. To transform hot water into rich and tasty coffee, it takes many beans.
- Everything we do begins with our people. Each of us matters. Our technology and processes require us to effectively communicate and collaborate and prioritize what is important through the noise. Our people are how we make it all happen and create the results we want to see.
When I heard the story of the carrot, the egg and the coffee bean many years ago, it didn’t resonate with me as it does right here, right now. As a publicly traded company, we live in hot water, and sometimes it will be scorching. We must be like the coffee bean to transform our environment and seize the opportunities presented to us each day.
We are all leaders and teammates, and each of us can positively impact our environments.
Be positive. Be believers. Be doers.
Be the coffee bean.
