Growth Lessons From A 6 Year Old…
My children are on spring break right now, and this year, I decided to take them skiing. My daughter has not really skied much, and she has never had a ski lesson. Basically, she is a complete beginner.
When we first arrived at the mountain, she was a little uncertain of herself. But, when she saw all the other kids skiing, she shifted her mindset from “I don’t know” and “I don’t think I can” to “Daddy, I can do this!”
- First run up the chair lift: Not so good, but we stayed positive. And, of course, I was there to support her.
- Next run: Slight improvement. Still positive.
- Next run: More improvement.
At this point, my daughter knew her older brother would be meeting up with us soon, and she was determined to be ready.
- Next run: She puts it all together. The wedge. Moving her ankles in and out to control speed. She even gets the weight shift down for turns.
Inside of 1.5 hours, this little girl goes from barely able to stand on skis to cruising down the mountain.
How did she do it? With a positive mindset.
Later in the day, my daughter was chasing her brother down the slope. She was going straight down, I was reminding her to turn, and she responded, “I don’t need to turn anymore. I just want to go fast!!”
A positive mindset makes all the difference.
Believe In The Path, And Stay Positive About The Progress Along That Path.
No matter how small, have a growth mindset and believe in the power of “I can” and “I will.”
