Slow Down...Speed Up
Fast. Faster. Fastest.
In other words… I want it now. Actually, I want it YESTERDAY!
The world is picking up speed again, and so are businesses… It’s all moving faster.
Fast paced speed is easy to get caught up in. Are you trying to keep pace, or are you setting the pace?
A fast pace can be fun. But accelerated speed can also lead to magnified feelings of pressure and stress, and going fast all the time can result in being blinded to what’s around you and what’s ahead.
Fortunately, you have the power to slow down, even when the world is coming at you quickly. You have the power to take a step back and to see the plays that are developing. This perception can turn you into an observer of the fast-paced action you are in.
How can you see the plays develop in slow motion across your business so you can react faster and be more productive because you have a higher level of awareness and anticipation?
You can be more deliberate, more intentional, more purposeful. When you develop strategies and tactics that help you slow down to really see what’s happening around you, you unleash your true creativity, presence and experience in the moments you are in. You find your flow state.
“Flow” is an optimal psychological state that typically occurs when there is a balance between the perceived challenges of a situation and your skills or capabilities for action that allow you to handle that situation. When you are in flow state, there is total consciousness and a feeling of control of the performance to create the desired outcome.
You are in control of how you respond to your fast-paced environment. What’s your plan to slow down?
For me… slowing down begins with a deep breathing exercise that literally slows myself and my mind down. I pause, take a step back and think. Almost always, this slow down leads to a bigger step forward.
Here’s what I know to be true:
Pressure is a privilege. You can’t win if you don’t play.
Pressure makes you better.
Pressure is a challenge to uphold your character — to win with integrity.
Pressure gives you the opportunity to experience life more fully — to embrace & enjoy the journey.
The joy is in the climb each day, and you can slow down to speed up.
