Be Here Now

A few weeks ago, I shared a story with you about my son and how he notices when I’m not fully present.

For those of you who may have missed it, here’s the scenario:

At nearly 11 years old, my son has started to notice the moments when I’m not fully paying attention to him, usually as a result of multitasking. My son will pick up on the fact that I’m working and preoccupied. Then he says something like, “Daddy, is it ok if I eat two containers of chocolate ice cream before dinner?”

If I am not paying attention, he knows my response will most likely be, “sure” or “yes.”

Then, he’ll laugh and make a joke about it — making it known he just caught me not paying close attention. He’ll gloat, and then say something like; “Now, I can go eat my ice cream before dinner.”

The lesson in this story is simple. Be here, now.

Be present. By paying attention to what is happening in each moment, we become more appreciative of the people, events and opportunities in front of us.

The challenges will never disappear, but the need to feel connected will not dissolve either.

The call to action here is simple. Be Here Now.

Connect more to grow more. Connections require presence.

Bring the positive power of mindfulness and self-awareness into your day-to-day habits. My suggestion is simple, do your best to try to be present in all areas of your life. In my experience, life is more fulfilling when you are there for it.
