Stop Procrastinating – Start Producing
This weekend, I reminded myself of something that we all know well:
Procrastinating wastes time.
When I know I am going to do something… and yet I still don’t do it… and I think about doing it instead of just doing it… and then I realize what I am doing…
This just drives me CRAZY!
I am very disciplined, yet I still find myself in this cycle of procrastination from time to time.
For example, here’s a story from my weekend…
This Weekend, I Procrastinated A Little Too Much.
- Saturday, prior to exercising, I found myself avoiding it. I probably wasted 15-20 minutes procrastinating.
- Sunday day, I found myself doing the same thing with my cold plunge. Another 10 minutes wasted.
- This morning, again, I was hesitating to get out of bed. 10 more minutes gone.
Just based on this quick check in, I’ve lost 35-40 minutes on just these items.
So What’s The Trick To Avoid Procrastination?
Programming your mind to just go. Once you make a decision and commit, following through should be automatic.
To Avoid Procrastination, Use The 5-Second Rule.
5-4-3-2-1….. GO!
My mistake this weekend was waiting too long to start, and allowing myself to procrastinate.
I decided at the start of 2022 that I am going to do whatever it takes. For me, part of “whatever it takes” is better self management, which means I am going to make decisions and GO. In doing this, I will win back the time I would otherwise lose procrastinating.
This weekend, I lost 35-40 minutes. Next weekend, it will be less.
Nobody is perfect. In fact, perfection is an illusion, and life is a game of reps. Each day, I feel like I am practicing life, and I have an opportunity to learn and get better as a result.
I learned an old lesson again this weekend: better self management leads to better time management.
5-4-3-2-1…..GO!
I do whatever it takes, and I get it done.
