1 2019 LeadsCouncil Benchmarking Report Introduction In December 2018, LeadsCouncil conducted the LeadsCouncil Benchmarking Survey to better understand how recent changes are impacting marketers and to identify current trends and best practices in the lead generation industry. Email invitations to complete the survey were sent in December 2018 and early January 2019 to LeadsCouncil members, the LeadsCouncil email database and the Digital Media Solutions email database. Roughly half of respondents work for businesses they described as "lead buyers" or "lead sellers/aggregators." About 20% work for technology platforms involved in or related to the lead generation industry, and the remaining 29% of respondents work for businesses related to compliance solutions, call centers and the lead generation industry in general. Lead buyers and sellers described their top three priorities for 2019 as: 1. INCREASED LEAD QUALITY 2. LOWERING COST PER CONVERSION 3. INCREASED LEAD VOLUME Report Highlights 1. The top media channels, as selected by lead buyers and sellers, in terms of combined quality and ability to scale, are paid search, email marketing, social media and third-party leads. 2. The top regulation that is affecting lead generation efforts for both lead buyers/sellers and non-lead buyers/sellers is TCPA. 3. Lead buyers and sellers sometimes expressed opposing opinions with non-lead buyers and sellers, particularly regarding confidence with various compliance regulations. The majority of lead buyers and sellers expressed that they were "extremely confident" they are in compliance with TCPA, CAN-SPAM and DNC regulations. Non-lead buyers and sellers were only "somewhat confident" that lead buyers and sellers are in compliance.
