Verizon Stops RoboCalls: Just The Facts

Verizon announced its adoption of new tools that will help stop robocalls and address spam calls.

Available as of last month to all smartphone users – iPhones and Androids alike – Verizon introduced a free version of the Call Filter service. With the Call Filter service, consumers can “get alerts when a call is likely spam, report unsolicited numbers and automatically block robocalls based on their preferred level of risk.”

Consumers looking for more complete call protection can invest in Verizon’s Call Filter’s full feature set for $2.99 per month, per line. This option includes all the free features and identification by name for unknown callers. Full-feature consumers can also create robocall block lists, view more insights with the robocall risk meter and easily look up spam numbers.

Explained in a company blog post, Verizon also began the integration of STIR/SHAKEN caller ID technology across its network. This technology has the capability to verify that the number displayed on Caller ID is the number that placed the call.

Why Did Verizon Take Additional Measures To Stop RoboCalls?

Verizon addressed that many consumers have complained about being “bombarded” by robocalls and believes the addition of these tools will aid consumers is avoiding such calls.

How Will Verizon’s Cybersecurity Initiatives Benefit Marketers?

The Call Filter and STIR/SHAKEN caller ID technology additions will aid marketers as these cybersecurity efforts will differentiate honest communication from spam messaging. These initiatives will also encourage marketers to make sure their marketing strategies are completely compliant with Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and Do Not Call (DNC) regulations and will be less likely to appear as spam to consumers.
