As a parent, I want to protect my daughters.
I’m not seeking control, but I want them to stay safe.
If I overly protect my daughters as they grow,
I will limit their experiences to learn and grow and discover themselves.
So, I have created guardrails for my daughters.
The guardrails are built based on my family's values, commitments and promises.
The guardrails create a safe space.
Within the safe space, my girls can have the confidence and freedom to explore.
Within the guardrails, the girls can create.
They can discover.
They can confidently experience new things.
Within their safe space, they can learn and grow.
I don’t want my daughters to just stand alongside me.
My vision, for each of my daughters, is to have them stand atop my shoulders.
I want them each to reach higher than my arms can go.
The cocoon is warm and safe, but within it grows a butterfly.
We all learn and grow the most through challenges and failures experienced firsthand. The key is being able to explore and discover within the space between the guardrails.
There is a special balance in the space that exists between the support of the guardrails, where we can each flourish.
